Why Are Strict Modes Important?

As you use Refocus, you may notice that you will habitually press “Stop Blocking” to unblock apps. Strict Modes help you “interrupt” this habit.

Refocus improves your focus by adding friction, unlike social media apps, which aim to remove friction to keep you hooked. For example, the infinite scroll was designed so users can browse endlessly without needing to click or load new pages, minimizing interruptions and increasing engagement. By increasing friction, you're guaranteed to reduce your phone use over time.

What Are Each Of The Strict Modes?

Normal (Easy)

This is the default. You are able to stop blocking any time.

Interruptions (Medium)

Every attempt to stop blocking will be interrupted by a challenge. The challenge allows you to think a little bit longer on whether you truly want to stop blocking. There are two types of interruptions:
